About Me
Heidi Larner
Integrative Psychotherapist MBACP (Accred)
I have always sensed that there is more to existence than what immediately meets the eye. In 2002, my deep curiosity into the workings of the human mind and the mysteries of the unconscious stirred a desire to pursue a career in psychology and helping others. My initial study of psychology very soon led me to explore and experience many different aspects of human consciousness; meditation, yoga, energy healing, astrology, earth-based spirituality, and metaphysical spirituality. These experiences are an intrinsic part of who I am and deeply inform the way in which I work. The world is rich in diversity and we all have our unique roads to explore on our path to the wellbeing we desire. I allow space for this with each client by using an integrative therapeutic approach that draws on techniques and training in humanistic therapy, transpersonal psychology, mindfulness based therapy, psychodynamic therapy, DBT, CBT, interpersonal neurobiology, and internal family systems. The degree to which each modality is utilised depends on the preferences and needs of each individual client.
I have worked in the field of mental health since 2009, starting as an advocate at a domestic violence shelter. My clinical work began in 2013 with private clients from the community, part of which was completed at a DBT training and counselling centre, and part at a non-profit organisation. I then worked as a crisis clinician at a community mental health organisation, which involved counselling, emergency intervention, and psychological evaluation. In 2018 I began working in higher education which emphasised the needs, challenges, and experiences of young people. Alongside this work I have continued providing long term psychotherapy to private clients. I have extensive experience working with acute mental health conditions, complex trauma in both crisis situations and longer-term recovery, and clients with complex socio-economic needs. Much of this client work has presented as anxiety and depression, and the the multitude of life difficulties at the root of these problems. Mental health and wellbeing challenges affect everyone to some degree, and the extent to which they are experienced in no way shapes the validity or need for seeking help. My passion lies within helping clients reconnect to themselves at a soul level, and realign with the truth of who they really are.
