Heidi Larner
Integrative Psychotherapist, MA, MBACP (Accred)
Since 2009, I have worked within mental health settings in both the United States and the United Kingdom. My professional journey began in a domestic violence shelter in Colorado, supporting individuals affected by abuse and trauma. I later provided individual and couples counselling within a community-based non-profit organisation before moving into emergency community mental health services, where I worked with people experiencing acute psychological distress and mental health crises in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Following my return to the UK in 2018, I worked as a university counsellor and within private mental health services before establishing my own private practice in 2022. Across each of these roles, I have developed extensive experience supporting individuals living with complex trauma and PTSD, from moments of acute crisis through to deeper, longer-term recovery and personal growth.
My Therapeutic Approach and Modalities
The world is rich in diversity, and each of us has a unique path toward wellbeing. I acknowledge this by offering an integrative therapeutic approach that draws from humanistic and transpersonal psychology, mindfulness and somatic-based therapy, psychodynamic therapy, DBT, polyvagal theory, and Internal Family Systems. The degree to which each modality is used is subject to your own needs, helping you develop trust and confidence in your own inner guidance.
I provide techniques and expertise that help you connect with your body, feelings, and intuition, providing reparative interventions, regulating stress responses, and supporting greater clarity, hope, and emotional resilience. Lasting change is possible when gradually implemented and reinforced through an empathic, accepting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship.
My passion lies in helping clients reconnect to themselves at a soul level; to rediscover and reconnect the parts of self that have been forgotten, to find wholeness within complexity, and to embody the essence of their being in everyday life.
My Journey
Since early on in life, I’ve held a deep curiosity about what lies beyond the surface, about the mysteries that shape who we are and how we heal. My path of healing and discovery has led me to explore and experience many dimensions of human consciousness, including meditation, yoga, energy healing, evolutionary astrology, metaphysics, and earth-based spirituality.
These practices have shaped not only my understanding of the inner world, but also how I meet life: through presence, compassion, and embodied awareness. They remain an essential part of who I am and continue to inform the way I hold space for myself and others.
Professional Training
Alongside this personal exploration, I undertook professional training in contemplative and transpersonal psychology, and traditional Eastern arts, where I studied meditation, mindfulness, yoga philosophy and asana practice. Through these studies and practices, I cultivated an understanding of the body as a sacred vessel for awareness, transformation, and healing. Together, these foundations continue to guide my work, weaving psychological insight with contemplative wisdom, embodied practice, and the mysteries of the soul.
Further professional training and development has strengthened my expertise in working with complex trauma, PTSD, and the intricate dynamics of the human nervous system. This has included the cultivation of strong clinical counselling skills grounded in humanistic and depth-oriented approaches, supporting a capacity to work relationally and attune to the deeper layers of experience.
My Philosophy
My work is rooted in authenticity and informed by the wisdom of the body, integrating both grounded awareness and emotional depth. My philosophy towards life is transpersonal and spiritual, which is ultimately about inclusivity, freedom, and acceptance.
I do not subscribe to any specific belief system and remain open-minded to all, honouring the unique path of each individual. I bring curiosity and compassion to the therapeutic space, creating a container where clients can safely explore the deeper layers of their experience, reconnect with their innate wisdom, and realign with the truth of who they are.
